I did the unthinkable today.

The gods of the internet were having a day off today, so I have been fighting with a flicking online – offline status on my laptop. Really frustrating, and the stuff I planned to do needed more bandwidth than the piddly amount offered by my mobile hotspot. So plan b – thought I would do some written work instead. Merrily typing away, and then needed to check a reference.. .opening up google to a dud page. Yeah, forgot about that no internet thing.

I actually read a book. I surprise myself, I tell ya.

I read quite a lot actually, but I am more likely to do the google search to find out what I need to know. Same with looking up contact details, easier most times to do a lil’ search and click. I am very reliant on technology, not only in my job but generally in life. So whilst I have lots of reading material, it’s online.

Luckily the bit I wanted could be found in a good ol’ fashioned book. And I used another one too! An ancient dictionary that was once my mothers, gifted to me – another thing you can’t do easily with a website. (Admittedly it doesn’t have words like selfie in it, but I think I can work those out myself!)

I think this is why print isn’t dead, despite many claims over the years that it’s an outdated media. When all else fails… And this isn’t a thinly disguised sales pitch for printing services from me, since I don’t really operate in that field any more. More as a reminder to myself, and you lovely lot, that it still has a place. Adverts. Signage. Junk mail. Receipts. Business cards, when we go to in person meetings or events. Flyers through the letterbox. Welcome packs. And yes, even books!

Has print saved your bacon lately?
